Overview
CloudStack is a cloud infrastructure management platform used by engineering teams at Fortune 500 companies. Their legacy UI was built by engineers for engineers — technically functional but nearly impossible for non-technical stakeholders.
The Challenge
IT managers and CTOs needed to use CloudStack to approve spending and review performance, but the UI was too technical. This led to slow approvals, missed incidents, and frustrated enterprise customers who threatened to churn.
Research & Discovery
We embedded with 3 CloudStack customer teams for 1 week each, observing how different roles interacted with the product. We identified 4 distinct user types with radically different needs and mental models.
